Buckhannon-Upshur remained No. 8 in the WVSACA Class AAAA boys basketball poll after a 9-5 start and a road win at Fairmont Senior, while Morgantown stayed No. 1 and other class leaders included Capital, Wheeling Central and Tug Valley.

Buckhannon-Upshur rallied with an 18-1 third-quarter run to overcome a slow start and beat Fairmont Senior 50-46, paced by Jerin Westfall’s 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Buckhannon-Upshur senior Mallory Hughes and junior Grayson Colburn were named Hank Ellis All-Stars after top finishes at the Big 10 Conference swim meet, with Hughes taking two seconds and Colburn earning multiple top-10 finishes and relay medals.

Buckhannon-Upshur survived a wild swing to beat Preston 49-43, building a 33-17 halftime lead before the Knights stormed back to tie it after three. The Lady Bucs got tough late, cashing key free throws and forcing 20 turnovers as Emma Pingley led with 18.

West Virginia Wesleyan was picked second in the 2026 Mountain East Conference men’s tennis preseason poll behind University of Charleston, which received six of seven first-place votes.

West Virginia Wesleyan was picked third in the 2026 Mountain East Conference women’s tennis preseason poll behind favorite Charleston and Fairmont State.

Fairmont State swept West Virginia Wesleyan, winning the women’s meet 127-30 and the men’s meet 109-68 despite several season-best swims and individual victories by Bobcats.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Lady Bucs finished second with 128 points at the Big 10 Conference Swim Championships, led by Mallory Hughes’ two runner-up finishes and several top-five individual and relay performances.

Buckhannon-Upshur finished seventh of eight with 50 points at the Big 10 Conference Championships, led by Grayson Colburn’s third in the 500 free and a third-place 400-yard freestyle relay.
