Wesleyan’s Shumaker earns postseason All-MEC baseball honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – On the eve of the Mountain East Conference Baseball Championship, the MEC announced Tuesday afternoon its 2026 all-conference team and individual postseason honors.

Wheeling’s Edward Mateo is the 2026 MEC Player of the Year, while fellow Cardinal and ace Sebastian Khan was voted the MEC Pitcher of the Year. Fairmont State’s Bryont Green is this year’s Freshman of the Year, and Wheeling’s Ryan Lewicki has been chosen as the Coach of the Year by his peers.

Mateo, a senior from Miami, Florida, leads the league in hitting with a .454 batting average. He had 79 hits on the season with seven home runs, and 40 RBIs. He also played in all 52 games for the Cardinals. He and the Cardinals won a share of the MEC North Division title.

Khan, a senior from Brampton, Ontario, had a league best 2.32 ERA in 2026. He went 7-1 on the mound this season. He also struck out 71 batters while walking only 21 on the season.
