An end-zone interception and a field goal off the right upright ended two fourth-quarter scoring chances as West Virginia Wesleyan lost 23-14 to Wheeling at Cebe Ross Field.

Gwen Rogosky and Jacob Frye are this week’s Hank Ellis All-Stars! Rogosky placed fifth in 19:39 at the Stonewall Invitational, while Frye caught six passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns against Fairmont Senior.

Upshur County’s Oct. 5–11 sports schedule features Buckhannon-Upshur and West Virginia Wesleyan teams in action. Highlights include MEC golf championships, football matchups, soccer, volleyball and the Wesleyan Bobcat Bash tennis event.

Felix Stump and Sylas Andrews finished second and third as the B-UMS Little Bucs powered to the Stonewall Invitational team title with 32 points. Four top-10 finishes fueled the victory over St. Francis and Bridgeport.

Audrey Johnston placed fifth and Taylor Wright ninth to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs at the Stonewall Invitational. B-UMS finished fifth among six teams with 103 points and heads to the Mid Mountain Conference championships Saturday.

Coby Smith tallied two goals and an assist as Buckhannon-Upshur outlasted Cabell Midland 4-3. Jimmie Green’s winner with five minutes left capped a gritty Bucs performance and boosted their playoff seeding hopes.

Gwendolyn Rogosky broke the 20-minute barrier for the first time, finishing fifth in 19:39.5 at the Stonewall Invitational. The Lady Bucs placed third despite missing Chloe Lewis, with nine runners posting personal-best times.

Buckhannon-Upshur sophomore Mitchell Whitley cracked the top 10 at the Stonewall Invitational, placing eighth in 16:47.3 among 105 runners. The Buccaneers finished eighth as a team and now turn their attention to the Big 10 Conference Championships.

Buckhannon-Upshur fell behind 13–0 in the opening four minutes and never recovered in a 65–30 loss to Fairmont Senior. Elijah Holmes piled up 292 receiving yards as the Polar Bears overwhelmed the Buccaneers despite a livelier second half.

The Lady Bucs found their fire again, but fell 1-0 to Bridgeport for their fifth straight loss. Coach Rosie Shackleford praised their fight and togetherness, while Bella Nottingham kept B-U close with 11 saves, including a penalty stop.
