B-U alum Rosie Shackleford, 20, takes over as the Lady Bucs’ fifth girls soccer coach in six years. Having experienced frequent turnover as a player, she hopes to bring stability, trust and a long-term commitment to her hometown program.

Buckhannon-Upshur opened preseason camp with 41 players as coach Sloan Baisden continues rebuilding the program. The Bucs will focus on developing young talent, replacing quarterback Dawson Tenney and finding new leaders after a 2025 playoff berth.

Hank Ellis Insurance surged from sixth to first in the Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League with a 27-13 win over Highland Landscaping. Steve Hollen earned Low Actual honors with a 36 and shared Low Net honors with John Mathias at 32.

After flash flooding hit Buckhannon, 25 to 30 Buckhannon-Upshur football players helped clean homes, move debris and distribute supplies. Coach Sloan Baisden said their response showed that being a team means serving the community beyond Friday nights.

The UCRC canceled the rest of its Bobcat Division postseason tournament after devastating regional flooding turned the venue into a donation center. Regular-season leader WV Split Rail was awarded the championship as organizers prioritize community recovery.
