TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs ended their regular season with a 2-2 deadlock with the visiting Elkins Tigers Wednesday evening in Big 10 Conference action at the high school.
Elkins led 1-0 at the half after a goal by Audrina Shelton when Darby Bailey played a pass into the box to her.
Buckhannon-Upshur tied the game in the 46th minute with a goal by Mallory Hughes with the assist going to Hannah Boyles.
Layla Fletcher returned the lead to Elkins in the 60th minute when Bailey sent her a pass into the box and she found the back of the net.
The game-tying goal for the Lady Bucs belonged to Boyles after she took a pass from Grace Queen with a shot just outside the 18 that hit the crossbar and went in.
“It was an intense back and forth game against a quality opponent,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente. “I was so proud of how hard we fought back even when we were down a goal. We are continuing to play extremely well as a team and will work on a few things to help convert our opportunities into goals more often.”
B-U dominated the stat sheet owning a 15-4 advantage in corner kicks and held a 7-1 lead in corner kicks.
The Lady Bucs were guilty of nine fouls while the Tigers were called for three.
B-U keeper Kyndal Davis made two saves while Elkins goalie Gracelin Corley stopped 13 shots.
The tie left Elkins with an 11-3-3 record overall and an 8-0-3 mark in the Big 10 Conference.
The Lady Bucs are now 11-5-4 overall and 7-1-4 in the Big 10.
Buckhannon-Upshur will now advance to their sectional tournament next week, but the opponent is yet to be determined waiting for the outcome of Thursday’s Bridgeport-University game.
