JV Bucs cant hold early lead in 58-39 loss to Eagles

CLARKSBURG – A very bad second quarter doomed the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers in their contest with the Robert C. Byrd Eagles Wednesday.

The Bucs led by two after the first quarter but were outscored by an 18-4 margin in the second quarter and went on to drop a 58-39 decision.

In that first quarter, Xavier Robinette scored six points while Brody McDaniels, Damion White and Brody Jeran each had two as the Bucs took a 12-10 lead after one quarter.

The Bucs managed just two field goals in the second quarter, one by Jacob Frye and one from Kadyn Baisden, which left them down by a 28-16 score at the break.

The Bucs lost the third quarter by a 20-15 count with Robinette contributing six points, White putting in four points, Colton Warner adding three and McDaniels putting in two.

That left the Bucs behind by a 48-31 scoring heading into the final eight minutes.

The final quarter went to the Eagles by a 10-8 margin with Jeran scoring three points and White and Ian Linger two each and one from Warner.

Kaden Feathers and Jackson Levake each had 11 points to lead the Eagles.

Robinette scored a game-high 12 points to pace the Bucs.

The loss dropped the Bucs to 3-4 on the year.

They will be back on the court Saturday hosting Grafton at 5:45 p.m.
