COVID-19 cases in West Virginia continue to decline on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 1,378 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 89 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (14), Barbour (3), Lewis (5), Randolph (50) and Webster (1) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of one active case in the last 24 hours.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the DHHR – an 85-year old male from Nicholas County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 29, 2021, there have been 3,004,339 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 163,992 total cases and 2,879 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 1.29%.

A total of 823,186 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 46% of the state.
