Glenville State University and the Glenville community will come together Thursday, September 3 to celebrate the dedication of the new Ike and Sue Morris Stadium, marking a new chapter for Pioneer athletics and the university community.

A field dedication ceremony will begin at 5:45 p.m. at the new stadium, followed by kickoff at 6 p.m. for Glenville State’s first home football game of the season. The game will also mark the home debut of new Pioneer head football coach Jake Casteel.

The dedication will celebrate the vision, generosity and community support that helped make the new stadium a reality. Glenville State University invites alumni, students, families, community members and Pioneer fans to join together for the special occasion and experience the new home of Pioneer football.

“This is more than the opening of a new stadium,” said Glenville State University President Dr. Mark A. Manchin. “It represents the continued growth of Glenville State University and the strong connection between our university and the Glenville community. We are excited to welcome everyone to campus to celebrate this important milestone with us.”

“We cannot wait to get things going in the new facility,” stated GSU Athletic Director Jessie Skiles. “Here at Glenville, we are incredibly blessed with the facilities that we have and the Morris Family Health & Fitness Complex is the next major structure in this amazing Pioneer transformation.”

The new Ike and Sue Morris Stadium is part of the larger Morris Family Health and Fitness Complex, a historic project currently nearing completion on the GSU campus. The complex is designed to help address rural health care needs across West Virginia while providing a state-of-the-art academic facility for Glenville State’s growing health sciences programs.

The Morris Family Health and Fitness Complex will create new opportunities for students to receive hands-on, career-focused education while supporting health, wellness and workforce development throughout rural West Virginia.

The university said the September 3 dedication and home opener will provide the community with its first opportunity to experience the new stadium and celebrate the beginning of a new era for Pioneer football.
