Commission, health department, DHSEM releases health advisory related to COVID-19

The following is a joint press release from Upshur County Commission, Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department and Upshur County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management:

Following Gov. Jim Justice’s press conference at 11 a.m. today, local county officials wish to update residents regarding recommendations in reference to COVID-19.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, response to this virus should be the same as the common flu. If you are fevered (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher), please refrain from public activity for 24 hours after your fever has subsided without medication.

Refrain from touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth and wash your hands often. Large groups in excess of 250 people or more are encouraged not to congregate. Older adults, with risk increasing by age, and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes and lung disease are most vulnerable to this virus.

If necessary, continued information will be released by the Upshur County DHSEM emergency notification system via landline or wireless phone, text message, email, TDD/TTY and social media.
