Upshur County reports 12 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday

After a dip earlier in the week, Upshur County reported 12 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. A total of 97 cases are currently active locally, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

Free testing is available all week from noon to 4 p.m. at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Statewide, the DHHR announced Thursday that 264 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 94-year old female from Kanawha County and a 65-year old male from Cabell County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 15, 2020, there have been 655,692 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 19,082 total cases and 393 deaths,” according to a press release.

With the state reporting record numbers of new cases, the daily color-coded alert map is starting to resemble the fall foliage map — less green, more orange and yellow.

Upshur County is categorized as red by infection rate and gold by percent positive, although it is close to orange in both those categories.

The recent surge in cases is widespread, encompassing virtually every part of the West Virginia. A total of 48 of the state’s 55 counties reported new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.
