BUCKHANNON – Buckhannon City Council has voted to waive all building and wiring permit fees for flood-related repair and restoration work inside city limits.
The unanimous vote came during a special meeting July 30, part of the city’s continuing effort to help residents and businesses recover from this month’s catastrophic flooding.
Permits are still required, and projects will be verified to ensure they are flood-related. Building Code Enforcement Officer Vincent Smith will inspect projects to confirm each one qualifies as flood recovery work. That verification step is meant to apply the waivers consistently while keeping the city’s building oversight intact.
All work must meet safety and code standards. Any project determined to be directly related to flood damage will receive a full fee waiver.
City Recorder Randy Sanders made the motion. Councilman Jack Reger seconded it, and it passed unanimously.
Mayor Robbie Skinner said the city remains committed to helping residents rebuild safely and efficiently. The waiver is one of several steps the city is taking to ease the cost of recovery for families and businesses.
