Wesleyan lacrosse gets first win after downing Emory & Henry, 21-7

BUCKHANNON — Erin Mobley and Talia Berardo scored five goals each to lead the West Virginia Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team to a 21-7 victory over visiting Emory and Henry College, Saturday.

Berardo got the Lady Bobcats on the board first with a pair of unassisted goals in the game’s first three minutes. But first quarter goals by the Lady Bobcats’ Makenzi Lewellyn (assist to Berardo), Mobly (unassisted), and Molly Knackstedt (assist to Lewellyn), were countered by four goals from the Wasps’ who fielded just 11 players to start the game. Brooklyn Halter scored two goals in the first quarter and Mina Hicks and Justyce Jones each scored one. Emory and Henry was down by just a goal going into the second quarter.

But the Lady Bobcats began to dominate play shortly into the quarter with another fast goal by Berardo with just 28 ticks off the clock. Wesleyan scored another six goals to the Wasps’ lone effort to enter the half up 12-5.

Aiding in the Lady Bobcat win was Noelle Fuller who added three goals and two assists while Lewellyn, Knackstedt and Raveena Navalgund each scored twice.

Wesleyan keeper Ella Gomez took the win with five saves in 60 minutes of net time.

The Lady Bobcats take off for its first road game on Saturday, Mar. 9 to play Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
