West Virginia reports 297 new COVID-19 cases, three deaths on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 297 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1) and Lewis (2) counties. A total of 38 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 75-year old male from Kanawha County, a 74-year old female from Putnam County, and a 71-year old female from Logan County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 28, 2021, there have been 2,422,755 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 140,613 total cases and 2,634 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,128 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 131,851 people have recovered and 2,634 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.08%.

A total of 308,348 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
