Buckhannon’s Waste Collection Department is hiring a full-time garbage truck helper

The City of Buckhannon is accepting applications through August 17, 2026, for one full-time garbage truck collection helper in its Waste Collection Department.

The helper works the city’s residential and commercial collection routes alongside the truck operator — a physical, outdoors job that keeps Buckhannon’s weekly garbage pickup running in every season.

Job benefits and compensation:

  • Hourly rate starting at $15.00 per hour, depending on a combination of education, skills and qualifications.
  • Full City benefits, including insurance, retirement, sick time and vacation time.
  • Annual work boot allowance.
  • Work clothing provided.

Candidates must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Driver must possess a valid WV driver license.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be in good physical condition. The job includes, but is not limited to, lifting up to 50 pounds as well as climbing.
  • Be willing to work in all forms of inclement weather.

Eligible candidates will be subject to a background check and drug test.
