Wesleyan swim teams compete in Corbiere/Merion Invitational

DELAWARE (Ohio) — The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s and women’s teams competed in the Corbiere/Merion Invitational this past weekend. Both teams placed fifth overall.

Session one started off with the Women’s 200-yard medley relay. Zeinah Abdelsalam, Jennifer Williams, Alienor Dalle, and Annalise Gentilozzi placed fifth with a season best time 2:01.74. In the women’s 100-yard butterfly, Dalle posted her season best 1:03.18 giving her a fourth place finish. In the men’s 100-yard breaststroke, Marcus Walker finished second with a time of 56.27. Abdelsalam finished seventh in the Women’s 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.31. The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay team finished seventh with a time of 3:32.15. Stephen Groves II, Owen Caynor, Caleb Martin, and Marcus Walker posted their season best time in the event.

Session two was highlighted first by Walker’s first-place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:05.13. Gentilozzi posted a personal best in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:30.61 and an eighth place finish. Martin in the men’s 100-yard freestyle finished in 10th with a season best 50.38. Dalle finished fifth in the women’s 200-yard butterfly with a season best time 2:41.50. Abdelsalam placed seventh in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:28.56.

Session three started with the women’s 200-yard IM. Gentilozzi finished with a time of 2:30.61 awarding her eighth place. In the women’s 100 yard freestyle, Dalle finished ninth with a time of 1:00.26. The women’s 200-yard butterfly had Dalle placing fifth and Maddie MacMillan placing eighth with times of 2:41.50 and 3:03.51. The women’s 200-yard backstroke had Abdelsalam placing seventh with a a time of 2:28.56.

The swim teams will start the new year off at Davis and Elkins College on January 12th at 1 p.m.
