Vandalia Health physicians achieve board certification for foot and ankle surgery

Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center physicians Hannah Hughes, DPM, and Michael Hurst, DPM, have earned board certification from the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, signifying advanced expertise and dedication to high-quality patient care.

Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center physicians Hannah Hughes, DPM, and Michael Hurst, DPM, have achieved board certification through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery’s (ABFAS) certification exam.

Hughes and Hurst join a community of more than 7,000 foot and ankle surgeons upholding the highest standards in surgery with a commitment to protect public health by continually improving the care they deliver, ongoing participation in assessments and training beyond what is required of their peers, and consistently delivering quality care to patients.

“As a board-certified physician, I’m committed to providing the highest quality surgical care and ensuring my patients can trust the expertise behind every decision I make,” said Dr. Hughes.

The certifying board, the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS), strives to protect and improve the health and welfare of the public by advancing the art and science of foot and ankle surgery. To accomplish this goal, ABFAS grants certification status to candidates who have successfully met the guidelines for demonstrating competency and proficiency in the art and science of foot and ankle surgery.

“This certification represents years of training and dedication to advancing foot and ankle care,” Dr. Hurst said. “I’m proud to bring this standard of care to the patients we serve at Davis Medical Center.”

Since its founding in 1975 to answer a need for a surgical specialty board within the field of podiatry, ABFAS Board Certification is the only foot and ankle surgical board recognized by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) through the Specialty Boards Recognition Committee.
