Two deaths, 70 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 70 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 72-year old female from Cabell County and a 69-year old female from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 19, 2020, there have been 369,546 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 8,801 total cases and 166 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Wednesday in Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Cabell, Fayette, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Monongalia, Monroe, Pendleton, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Taylor, Wayne, Webster, Wetzel and Wood counties.

About 1,726 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 6,909 people have recovered and 166 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.14%
