Women in central West Virginia can access women’s health services close to home through Vandalia Health, the not-for-profit regional system formerly known as Davis Health System. Care is available at Broaddus Medical Care, Buckhannon Medical Care, the Cowen Clinic, and Davis Medical Center.
The system grew from a century-old legacy of local philanthropy. Its flagship hospital in Elkins opened in 1903 as Davis Memorial Hospital, a gift from the family of Henry Gassaway Davis — whose name also marks Davis & Elkins College — and that not-for-profit, community-first mission continues today through the Davis Health System Foundation, which funds scholarships and local programs and hosts an annual Foundation Golf Classic.
The system joined Vandalia Health, West Virginia’s second-largest not-for-profit health network, in 2023 and adopted the Vandalia Health name in 2025. Since then it has continued to expand services and telemedicine across central West Virginia.
