CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Mountain Creek Appalachian Cuisine Restaurant at Pipestem Resort State Park will open Saturday, Aug. 8, according to West Virginia State Parks.
The restaurant is located at Pipestem’s Mountain Creek Lodge, a 30-room, midcentury Bauhaus-style lodge at the bottom of the Bluestone Gorge along the Bluestone River. Visitors must take the aerial tramway from the Canyon Rim Center and descend 1,200 feet into the gorge to reach the lodge.
West Virginia State Parks Chief Dillard Price said Mountain Creek Appalachian Cuisine is the newest restaurant concept in the state parks system. Operated by Pipestem Resort chef Marion Ohlinger, Mountain Creek is accessible only by riding the aerial tramway.

Ohlinger curated a menu he describes as upscale Appalachian cuisine, fusing Appalachian homestead staples with locally sourced ingredients.
Entrees include:
- Crawdad fritters
- Fried green tomatoes
- Twice-fried chicken
- Sumac-rubbed prime ribeye steak
- Brown sugar and spruceberry pork tenderloin
- Buttermilk-poached walleye pike
- Confit duck shanks
The restaurant also will offer weekend brunch featuring a rotating selection of time-tested favorites and other options.
