BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan turned in a strong all-around showing Saturday at its home Jasmine Clagett Memorial at Cebe Ross Field
On the men’s side, Royell Salmon delivered one of the day’s top performances, placing fourth in the 100 meters in 10.91 and then sprinting to a meet win in the 200 meters in 21.89. Freshman Carson Moore added a 10th-place finish in the 100 in 11.15 and took seventh in the 200 in 22.61, while Jarren Rutherford posted times of 11.36 in the 100 and 23.48 in the 200. Michael Hansford also contributed in the short sprint, finishing 19th in the 100 in 11.72.
Wesleyan also controlled key portions of the men’s running events beyond the dash races. Joseph Liveo won the 400 meters in 49.51, and Jourdan Demoss added an 11th-place showing in 54.92. In the 800 meters, freshman Zane Nelson clocked 2:12.80 for eighth before coming back for a huge day in the 1500 meters, where he finished runner-up in a personal-best 4:18.68 behind teammate Anthony Sanders, who won the race in 4:06.55. In longer distances, Landyn Sell placed third in the 5000 meters in 18:10.33, and Micah Evans took third in the 10,000 meters in 38:35.46.
The Bobcats were productive in the hurdles and relays as well. Reese Farquharson placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.63 and then came back for fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 58.77. Wesleyan’s top 4×400 relay of Zane Nelson, Griffin Thomas, Landyn Sell, and Anthony Sanders finished second in 3:50.20.
In the field events, Wesleyan stacked up more big performances. Peyton Slider won the javelin with a personal-best throw of 54.53 meters, edging Frostburg State’s Owen Butler. Michael Hansford was outstanding in the horizontal jumps, placing first in the triple jump with a personal-best 15.08 meters and fifth in the long jump at 6.23 meters. In the vertical jumps, Connor Casto took fourth in the high jump at 1.90 meters, Dane Sykes tied for seventh at 1.80 meters, and Drew Pierce finished fourth in the pole vault at 2.00 meters.
The men’s throws group also delivered several notable finishes. Quinton Payton was second in the hammer with a personal-best 53.94 meters and added 15th in the discus at 35.32 meters. Addison Kell placed fifth in the hammer with a personal-best 49.95 meters and 18th in the discus at 33.73 meters, while Jeremiah Zelinski turned in a 12th-place finish in the javelin at 34.90 meters.
The men’s team finished second overall.
