MEC tennis postseason brackets are set, with Charleston earning the No. 1 seed on both the men’s and women’s sides after unbeaten league runs. West Virginia Wesleyan, seeded No. 3, faces No. 2 Fairmont State in Saturday semifinals, with championships Sunday, May 3.

West Virginia Wesleyan was swept by West Virginia State in Sunday’s MEC doubleheader, falling 11-0 in five innings in the opener before a tighter 4-2 loss in game two. The Lady Bobcats rallied to tie the nightcap, but a two-run Olivia Bell homer proved the difference.

West Virginia Wesleyan’s women rallied from early setbacks to edge West Virginia State 4-3 in their season finale, finishing 15-6. The Bobcat men cruised to a 7-0 shutout—State’s first of the season—and now await their 14-7 MEC Tournament seeding.

West Virginia Wesleyan was blanked twice as Glenville State swept Friday’s MEC doubleheader, 3-0 and 13-0, at the Sue Morris Sports Complex. Zach Dellerman fired a two-hit shutout in the opener, and the Pioneers broke game two open with big fifth and sixth innings.

Highland Landscaping and First Community Bank share the Buckhannon Country Club Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League lead at 42½ points after week two wins. Steve Hollen (FCB) took Low Actual with a 38, while Ben Leigh (FCB) and David Powers (Hank Ellis) tied for Low Net at 34.

West Virginia Wesleyan’s men dropped a tight 4-3 Mountain East Conference match to Route 33 rival Davis & Elkins, with playoffs looming and a final regular-season test vs. West Virginia State on April 24. The Bobcat women answered with a dominant 6-1 win in Elkins.

Wesleyan softball powered past Davis & Elkins in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader sweep, 9-1 and 12-1, piling up 21 runs on 25 hits. Morgan Greene and Mackenzie O’Brien tossed complete games as big homers and a 5-RBI day from Emma Putman fueled the surge.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s teams stayed in the WV MetroNews rankings this week, with the Lady Bucs climbing to No. 5 in the Class AAAA softball poll. The Buccaneers slipped two spots to No. 9 in baseball as Cabell Midland and Jefferson held the top spots.

Buckhannon-Upshur ran its winning streak to four with a 14-1 rout of Hedgesville and a 12-2 road win over Greater Garrett County to improve to 6-4. Tobias Marple, Zack Simmons and Braylon Oldaker powered the offense while the Bucs’ defense and keeper Gage Scott set the tone.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Lady Bucs split a rare home doubleheader, falling 11-1 to state power George Washington before roaring back to crush Hedgesville 13-3. Mallory Moss powered the win with a career-high nine goals as B-U improved to 6-2.

West Virginia Wesleyan was swept by the University of Charleston in Sunday’s doubleheader, falling 3-1 in the opener before a 12-inning 6-5 marathon in game two.
