Lacrosse Bucs crush Wheeing Park for first win, 15-3
Buckhannon-Upshur powered to its first win of the season with a 15-3 rout of Wheeling Park, using balanced scoring from seven players despite a near 30-minute delay. Braylon Oldaker, Easton Rice and Tobias Marple netted three goals each as the Bucs improved to 1-1.
Lacrosse Lady Bucs can’t maintain slim halftime lead and fall in opener to GW, 9-7
Buckhannon-Upshur led 5-4 at halftime but couldn’t hold on, falling 9-7 to George Washington in Friday’s season opener. Mallory Moss scored three goals, Ava Lynch and Chloe Bennett added two each, and keeper Josie Rosencrance made 10 saves.
Softball Lady ‘Cats drop twin bill to Fairmont State
West Virginia Wesleyan managed just four runs in a doubleheader sweep at Fairmont State, falling 5-1 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
Baseball ‘Cats drop home doubleheader to Wheeling
Wheeling used late offense in game one and an early power surge in game two to sweep West Virginia Wesleyan, 7-3 and 8-4, piling up 25 hits on the day.
Wesleyan lacrosse falls to Alfred State, 15-4
Alfred State broke open a tight game with a late second-quarter flurry and a dominant third, rolling past Wesleyan 15-4 in Alfred. Elmer scored three times and Sloan added a goal and two assists, but the Pioneers controlled draws and shots behind Hargather’s 11-point day.
Marple and Brown homer as Lady Bucs win opener over Robert C. Byrd, 12-5
Kynnedy Marple and Payton Brown went deep as Buckhannon-Upshur’s Lady Bucs opened the 2026 season with a 12-5 Big 10 win over Robert C. Byrd, piling up 12 hits. Marple earned the relief win with seven strikeouts, while Brown, Marple, Knabenshue and Pastorius powered the offense.
Lacrosse Bucs open 2026 season with 13-6 home loss to Fairmont Senior
Buckhannon-Upshur opened the 2026 season with a 13-6 home loss to Fairmont Senior, led by two goals each from Forest Catlin and Zack Simmons and 10 saves from Gage Scott. The Bucs’ game vs. George Washington was postponed, and they host Wheeling Park Friday at 7 p.m.
Wesleyan’s Elmer named MEC Offensive Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Nyah Elmer earned MEC Offensive Player of the Week after posting six goals and four assists in a 17-2 rout of Geneva. Frostburg State’s Liz Amos took Defensive honors with a career-high 14 saves in an 8-7 upset of No. 18 Seton Hill.
WVWC’s Jansen van Vuuren named MEC Female Tennis Player of the Week
The Mountain East Conference named West Virginia Wesleyan’s Dominique Jansen van Vuuren the MEC Female Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Bobcats to a 6-1 win over Bloomsburg. The senior won No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1 and teamed for a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Softball Lady ‘Cats end Salem (Va.) trip with two wins
West Virginia Wesleyan softball closed its Salem, Va., trip with two wins at the WVWC Tournament, surviving a wild 10–9 slugfest over Pitt-Johnstown before edging Indiana (Pa.) 3–2. Josi Fix earned the opener in relief, and Morgan Greene went the distance in the nightcap.
Baseball ‘Cats earn split with Salem in twin bill
West Virginia Wesleyan and Salem traded late drama Saturday, as the Bobcats won Game 1, 6-5 in 10 innings, before the Tigers walked off Game 2, 3-2. Dylan Neach powered the opener and Alex Hernandez spun 5.1 scoreless relief, but Salem’s two-run seventh sealed the split.
