Eleven B-U players; two coaches honored on WVSLA All-State Lacrosse Team
Fresh off a state championship, Buckhannon-Upshur dominated the 2026 WVSLA Division II All-State Team with 11 players honored across First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention, plus both coaches recognized. The Bucs went 11-4 and crushed Jefferson County 15-3 for the title.
Moss, Howes earn First-Team all-state honors; Rosencrance named Second Team in girls lacrosse
Buckhannon-Upshur seniors Mallory Moss and Brianna Howes were named First Team All-State by the WVSLA after helping the Lady Bucs to an 8-5 season. Goalie Josie Rosencrance earned Second Team honors after allowing just 5.5 goals per game.
This week’s Hank Ellis All-Stars: Rylen Carlyle and Dawson Tenney
Rylen Carlyle and Dawson Tenney are the most recent Hank Ellis All-Stars. Carlyle placed fourth in the long jump at the state track meet, while Tenney hit .600 with two RBIs in the South Region Tournament.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s season ended with an 11-1 upset loss to Riverside in the South Region Tournament, undone by five errors after weather delays. Riverside broke it open with Tuf Eggleton’s sixth-inning grand slam. The Bucs finished 14-15 on the year.
Lady Bucs fall one win short of state tournament, finish banner year at 25-10
Buckhannon-Upshur battled through the South Region Tournament but came up one game shy of a state berth after two losses to Parkersburg South. Even so, the Lady Bucs capped a record-setting season at 25-10.

Baseball Bucs drop South Region opener to Cabell Midland, 13-4; elimination game vs. Riverside moved to Thursday
Buckhannon-Upshur dug out of a 5-0 hole to pull within a run, but Cabell Midland erupted for six in the fifth to take control in a 13-4 South Region Tournament win. The Bucs will host Riverside Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in an elimination game after rain postponed Wednesday’s matchup.

Buckhannon-Upshur freshman Braylea Squires and junior Zack Simmons are this week’s Hank Ellis All-Stars after standout performances on the diamond, track and lacrosse field. Squires powered the Lady Bucs in regional play, while Simmons helped deliver a Division II lacrosse title and punched a ticket to states in track.
Lacrosse Bucs claim Division II title with dominant 15-3 win over Jefferson County
Buckhannon-Upshur capped a dominant postseason run with a 15-3 rout of Jefferson County on Saturday in Charleston to win the WVSLA Division II state championship. The Bucs outscored three playoff opponents 47-8 on the way to the title.
Buccaneer baseball ends regular season ranked 11th, opens South Region tourney at Cabell Midland
Buckhannon-Upshur enters the South Regional Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will travel to No. 3 Cabell Midland on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. first-round matchup. The Buccaneers finished 14-13 and ended the regular season ranked 11th in the final MetroNews poll.
