B-U’s Dawson Tenney to play in North-South All-Star Football Classic

CHARLESTON – Buckhannon-Upshur’s Dawson Tenney will represent the Buccaneers in the 2026 West Virginia Schools Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Football Classic.

The Classic will be played Saturday, June 20, at South Charleston High School. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

Tenney led the Bucs to a first-round playoff game in Class AAAA this past season. He completed 86 of his 181 attempts for 1,256 yards and 12 touchdowns while running for 954 yards on 175 carries scoring 10 times. He also caught three passes for 63 yards tor 2,273 yards of total offense with 23 total touchdowns.

He was named to the First Team of the Big 10 All-Conference Football Team and earned Second Team honors on the West Virginia Sports Writers Association (WVSWA) Class AAAA All-State Football Team.

“Having the opportunity to play in the North-South game and represent my team is such an honor,” remarked Tenney. “It proves the hard work and determination that I have put in really has paid off. The Buckhannon-Upshur football staff and players have always been there to support me and push me to be better. So now I get to go show others what hard work we’ve put in over the past couple of years for our entire team. I hope to make B-U proud!”

Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Sloan Baisden remarked about Tenney having the opportunity to perform in the North-South game, “I’m extremely happy for him. He deserves any opportunities presented to him.  He is the type of student-athlete we want representing B-U every day.”

Tenney recently signed with the University of Charleston to continue his football career this fall.

The two head coaches for this year’s Classic are Philip Barbour’s Nick Mayle for the North and Herbert Hoover’s Joey Fields for the South.

Mayle’s coaching staff includes Philp Barbour assistant Toby Poling, Hampshire head coach Donnie Evans, Clay-Battlelle head coach Aaron Lapoe and Keyser head coach Derek Stephen. Aiding Fields in the game will be Herbert Hoover assistant coach Justin Cogar, Chapmanville head coach Zach Belcher, Sissonville head coach Mikey Hughes and Mingo Central head coach David Jones.
