Pioneer Players to perform ‘War of the Worlds’ at Glenville State College

GLENVILLE – The Glenville State College (GSC) Pioneer Players will present a Mercury Theatre on the Air production of “The War of the Worlds” by H.G. Wells on Saturday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Heflin Administration Building President’s Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The cast for the performance consists of (in order of appearance): Brittany Benson, Jack Boyce, Rita Hedrick-Helmick, Kandas Queen, Jeffery Bryson, David O’Dell, Andrew Mattox, Kaitlin Ensor, Mia Collins, Ruth Rucker, Marjorie Stewart, William Vann, and Veronica Rowse. The performance is being directed by Vann and produced by Dr. Gary Morris.

Wells originally wrote “The War of the Worlds” – a tale of alien invasion – in 1897. In 1938, legendary director Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre on the Air made the story even more famous. His adaptation of the work, broadcast on the radio in a “breaking news bulletin” style, created confusion and panic among listeners.

The Pioneer Players are a community group composed of GSC faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

For more information about the performance or to learn how to join the Pioneer Players, contact Vann at Will.Vann@glenville.edu or call (304) 462-6214.
