Lewis County woman, age 53, among COVID-19 deaths announced Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 232 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (8), Lewis (4), Randolph (3) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 51 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 53-year old female from Lewis County, a 66-year old male from Mason County, a 69-year old male from Berkeley County, an 80-year old male from Tucker County, a 64-year old male from Boone County, a 78-year old male from Kanawha County, a 60-year old male from Marion County, and a 37-year old female from Monongalia County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of March 3, 2021, there have been 2,198,226 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 132,416 total cases and 2,309 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,451 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 123,656 people have recovered and 2,309 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.13%.

A total of 199,611 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
