Lady Bobcat golfers selected eighth in MEC preseason poll

BRIDGEPORT — Glenville State edged out Charleston to take the top spot in the 2024 Mountain East Conference Women’s Golf Preseason Poll.
 
GSU received seven-first place votes and earned 63 total points during the preseason voting. Glenville State won their second-consecutive women’s golf championship in 2023 while also competing at the NCAA East Regional in Carmel, Indiana.
 
Charleston earned two-first place votes and had 58 total points. UC was the runner-up at last year’s MEC women’s golf championship. Lucia Martin, who was the MEC 2023-24 Freshman of the Year returns for the Golden Eagles while head Coach Will Johnson was the 2023-24 MEC Coach of the Year.
 
Fairmont State (47), Davis & Elkins (39), West Liberty (32) and Wheeling (28) rounded out the top six in the preseason voting.
 
Concord (25), West Virginia Wesleyan (24) and Point Park (8) rounded out the poll.
 
The women’s golf season gets underway on Sept. 8th for several MEC institutions while the 2024 MEC Men’s Golf Championship is set for Oct. 7-9 at The Resort at Glade Springs the Cobb Course.
