BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The Upshur Parish House will hold its annual back-to-school distributions August 17 in Buckhannon and August 19 in Rock Cave, offering local students everyday essentials to help them begin the school year with confidence.
This year’s Back-to-School Support Days will include full-size hygiene kits, new socks and underwear, reusable water bottles and limited school supplies while available. The Parish House will also continue its traditional backpack program through its partnership with Head Start.
“As more organizations throughout our community have stepped up to provide backpacks and school supplies, we wanted to focus on some of the other things families often struggle to afford,” said Isaac Casto, executive director of the Upshur Parish House. “Our goal is simply to help children feel prepared and confident as they head back to school.”
The Buckhannon distribution will be held Monday, August 17, from 1:00-5:30 p.m. Because the Parish House’s main facility is currently being used for flood relief supplies, distribution will take place from one of the buildings on Warfield Way, directly behind the main building. Signs and volunteers will help direct families when they arrive.
The Rock Cave distribution will be held Wednesday, August 19, from noon-4:00 p.m. at the Parish House’s Rock Cave location.
Back-to-School Support Days are available to local families with school-age children. Children are encouraged to attend when possible, and families will complete the Parish House’s regular Neighbor Intake process.
