Driver killed after sliding into stream in Randolph County

One person was killed in a single-vehicle accident on the East Dailey Road in Randolph County on Monday, February 17, 2025, when a sedan slid off the road and landed upside down in a stream, according to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of an overturned vehicle partially submerged in water. When they arrived, they found a sedan resting on its roof in the stream. Investigators say the driver, identified as Austin J. Lawrence, lost control due to “extremely slick conditions” and veered off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle flipped onto its top as it left the road and came to rest in the water.

“After the vehicle was removed from the water, it was discovered that the driver was still inside the vehicle and had died as a result of the accident,” the release states.

Personnel from Randolph County EMS, Tygart Valley Fire Department and Elkins Fire Department assisted sheriff’s deputies with the response.
