Two rounds of fall trout stocking will bring about 40,000 pounds of fish to nearly 40 West Virginia lakes and streams during the weeks of October 19 and 26.

Each water will get one stocking per week, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources said in a release.

“Fall stocking is a great time to fish for trout and a gorgeous time to be outdoors when fall colors are peaking around West Virginia,” West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Director Brett McMillion said in the release. “We encourage you to take your family members and friends and enjoy this unique opportunity.”

The Governor’s Tagging Contest will offer a lifetime fishing license to the angler who catches a specially designated pink-tagged fish and reports the catch as the tag instructs.

For stocking locations, see pages 6 and 7 of the 2026 Fishing Regulations Summary at WVdnr.gov.
