Buckhannon Community Theatre brings “Puffs” to the Colonial Arts Center this weekend

Buckhannon Community Theatre opens its fall production of Puffs Oct. 23–26 at the Colonial Arts Center, a comedic homage to a famous wizarding saga told from the Puffs’ perspective. Local cast members say the show is a laugh-out-loud, community experience. Please note that Puffs is rated R for strong language and suggestive humor.

Get ready for a spellbinding, laugh-out-loud adventure as Buckhannon Community Theatre (BCT) opens its fall production of Puffs at the Colonial Arts Center Thursday evening.

A clever parody and heartfelt homage to a certain seven-book wizarding saga, Puffs tells the story of seven increasingly eventful years at a school of magic, told from the perspective of the underdogs: the Puffs.

“This show is just pure fun,” said cast member Lisa Laxton, who plays Susie Bones, among other roles. “It’s been such a positive experience. I made friends instantly with the cast, and I can’t wait to do another one. The energy and the absolute slapstick comedy of it are what get me every time.”

For Laxton, Puffs marks her first BCT production since moving to the area. A lifelong theater lover and former youth theater choreographer, she said joining Buckhannon’s community theater felt like coming home.

Fellow cast member Asad Khan, who plays Oliver Rivers, echoed that sense of community.

“The family that I’ve made, the theater family, has been unbelievable,” Khan said. “There are moments when we’re trying to crack each other up onstage, and it’s all part of the fun. Of course, we’re doing it for the audience, but we’re also having an incredible time ourselves.”

Performances of Puffs run Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 23-25, at 7 p.m., with a Sunday, Oct. 26, matinee at 2 p.m. All shows will be held at the Colonial Arts Center in downtown Buckhannon. Tickets are $15, and the show lasts just over two hours.

Disclaimer: Puffs is rated R for strong language and suggestive humor. Viewer discretion is advised, particularly for minors.
