BUCKHANNON – A second person involved in a crash on Route 33 has died, according to an area funeral home.
Thomas “Shayne” Knight, who was critically injured in the Oct. 29 collision on Route 33 that killed his wife, Aislinn Posey, passed away at age 35.
Knight, of Lost Creek, died Saturday, Oct. 31, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, according to his obituary from Pat Boyle Funeral Home.
He and Posey, 27, married Aug. 14, 2024.
“Their love story was one of unwavering commitment, and they now watch over their children from heaven, together,” the obituary says.
Knight leaves behind eight children. He is also survived by his father, Ronnie Knight; his mother, Tina Fornash, and her husband, Michael; six siblings; his maternal grandparents, Nancy and Tom McCartney; and his paternal grandparents, Sandy and Carl Mick.
Born in Weston, Knight graduated from the Mountaineer Challenge Academy, served in the U.S. Army and worked as a lineman for GFK. The obituary calls him “a devoted father who treasured every moment spent with his children” and says he loved hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and cooking.
Buckhannon Police Chief Matt Gregory said a westbound 2020 Toyota RAV4 collided with a 2012 Ford Focus that was crossing Route 33 at WBUC Road. Officers responded at 3:22 p.m.
Knight was driving the Focus, and Posey was his passenger. Two children in the back seat, ages 1 and 2, were taken to Ruby for observation with what Gregory understood to be minor injuries.
Family and friends will gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Hackers Creek Road in Jane Lew. A celebration of life follows at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with Pastor Preston Blosser officiating and full military honors from the U.S. Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard.
