Bobcat swim teams get swept by Fairmont State

BUCKHANNON — West Virginia Wesleyan men’s and women’s swimming hosted Fairmont State on Saturday in a competitive dual that featured multiple season-best style efforts from the Bobcats across the meet. Fairmont State claimed the team wins on both sides, taking the women’s meet 127-30 and the men’s meet 109-68.

Men’s Recap (Fairmont State 109, WVWC 68)
West Virginia Wesleyan opened the day with a strong second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the Bobcats’ “A” team of Aaron Dworsky, Yigit Ataman, Alex Cedillo, and Ryan Guerron posted a 1:44.75 to set the tone early.

The Bobcats’ top moment came in the men’s 1000-yard freestyle, where Aaron Taylor delivered a gritty win, touching first in 11:29.06. Wesleyan added more points in the same event with Owen Caynor taking third in 12:59.32.

Wesleyan also captured another individual win when Yigit Ataman powered to first in the 200-yard IM, winning in 2:07.59. Teammate Alex Cedillo followed with a third-place finish in 2:21.59.

Additional highlight swims included:

  • Owen Caynor placing second in the 100-yard freestyle (58.10)
  • Dworsky winning the 100-yard backstroke with a strong 58.96
  • Ataman doubling back for first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.08)
  • Wesleyan closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Caynor, Steve Escobedo, Ataman, and Dworsky combined for a 1:44.05.

Women’s Recap (Fairmont State 127, WVWC 30)
The Wesleyan women earned valuable points in several events while battling an experienced Fairmont State lineup. A key highlight came in distance, where Bre Waldron posted a runner-up finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, swimming a strong 11:54.98.

Waldron continued her productive day with an event win in the 100-yard backstroke, capturing first in 1:09.10 to give Wesleyan one of its top placements of the meet.

Other notable Bobcat performances included:

  • Taylor Hess taking third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:30.32), a personal best for her.
  • Maddie Macmillan placing third in the 50-yard freestyle (29.06)
  • Macmillan also finishing second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.96)
  • Hess adding points in both the 100-yard butterfly (3rd, 1:20.71) and 200-yard breaststroke (2nd, 3:02.05)
