Baseball Bucs go to 5-0 with 12-0 win over Liberty

CLARKSBURG – Drahden Rice threw a five-inning shutout and the offense pounded out 10 hits as the Buckhannon-Upshur baseball Buccaneers earned a decisive 12-0 win over Liberty in Big 10 Conference play Tuesday evening.

It’s the fourth time in five games that B-U has 10-runned their opponent.

For Rice, he picked up the win allowing just two hits while striking out three.

The game was tight before the Bucs erupted for nine runs in top of the fourth inning.

Buckhannon-Upshur took 1 -0 lead in the top of the second when Clint Crites drew a one-out walk, went to third on a single by Brayden Hamer and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach Calef-Boring.

The Bucs sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth inning with the big blast coming from Ryan Snyder who hit a two-run home run.

Jaden Westfall and Snyder both scored on bases loaded walks in the top of the fifth inning to get the B-U lead up to 12-0 as the Bucs kept Liberty off the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth ending the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Landon Marple and Westfall each had two hits while Calef-Boring drove in four runs and Snyder three to lead the B-U offense.

Cooper Floyd and Brody Lane had Liberty’s two hits.

Lane suffered the loss for Liberty going four innings and allowing 10 runs on nine hits.

The win kept the Bucs perfect on the season upping their mark to 5-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big 10 Conference.

B-U will be back in action Thursday hosting Fairmont Senior at 5 p.m.
