Active COVID-19 cases fall in West Virginia, but seven new deaths reported in the last 24 hours

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 4,084 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 245 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (54), Barbour (17), Lewis (28), Randolph (240) and Webster (40) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of five active cases in the last 24 hours.

Seven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the DHHR – a 75-year old female from Monongalia County, a 69-year old female from Tyler County, a 66-year old male from Raleigh County, a 67-year old male from Harrison County, a 61-year old male from Tyler County, a 64-year old female from Harrison County, and a 49-year old male from Raleigh County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 3, 2021, there have been 2,932,854 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 162,111 total cases and 2,807 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 2.78%.

A total of 740,653 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 41% of the state.
