The spread of COVID-19 along Route 33 continued on Wednesday, with more than 30 new cases reported between Lewis (5), Upshur (9), Barbour (5) and Randolph (13) counties.
Upshur, Barbour and Randolph counties all report infection rates in the red zone. On the daily color-coded map, Upshur and Barbour counties are listed as gold by positivity percentage, while Randolph is orange. Lewis County has a yellow-level infection rate and is green by percent positive.
A total of 89 cases are active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.
Free testing is available daily from noon to 4 p.m. at Buckhannon-Upshur High School this week.
Statewide, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 263 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.
Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 83-year old male from Berkeley County, a 73-year old male from Kanawha County, a 94-year old male from Kanawha County, and a 67-year old male from Summers County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 14, 2020, there have been 648,771 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 18,818 total cases and 391 deaths,” according to a press release.
West Virginia continues to report record numbers of new COVID-19 cases, with 1,679 cases identified over the past seven days.
New cases were reported Wednesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Cabell, Calhoun, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Roane, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Wayne, Wood and Wyoming counties.
About 4,612 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 13,815 people have recovered and 391 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.21%.
