Woman injured in Fayette Street fire passes away

BUCKHANNON – The woman who was seriously injured in a Fayette Street structure fire July 22 has died.

Buckhannon Fire Chief J.B. Kimble said Donna Jean Winslow, 66, of Buckhannon, passed away from related injuries Friday, July 31 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

According to her obituary, Winslow was a registered nurse and enjoyed photography, being a member of the Women of the Moose and spending time with family and friends.

A celebration of life service will take place at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 7 at the Moose Lodge on North Kanawha Street. Read Winslow’s full obituary here.

Kimble said the cause of the fire at the 87 Fayette St. residence is still under investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office; however, he confirmed the blaze was confined to the second-floor bedroom, where Winslow was reportedly located when it started.

“The fire marshal is coming [Thursday] to discuss it and follow up some more,” Kimble said. “The cause is still under investigation.”

Buckhannon firefighters and firefighters from several other departments across the county arrived on scene quickly and the fire was under control within a few minutes.

Winslow was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital-WVU Medicine, but subsequently transported to the West Penn Burn Center at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Kimble said the state fire marshal is also currently investigating a small fire that broke out in a laundry room at 14 Cleveland Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 1.
