Down power line on Amalia Drive cuts power to west Buckhannon

A down power line on Amalia Drive leading to St. Joseph’s Hospital has caused a power outage on the west side of Buckhannon, including the stoplight at the courthouse.

The line also caused a brief bush fire and transformer outages when it fell at about 12:30 p.m. Amalia Drive is currently closed to everything except emergency traffic.

Due to the power outage, the Upshur County Courthouse and courthouse annex will be closed for the remainder of the day, per the Upshur County DHS-OEM emergency alert system.

1:30 p.m. update — Power has been restored to much of town.
