#2 Fairmont State def. #3 West Virginia Wesleyan, 4-3
CHARLESTON — Fairmont State would hold on and pull out a 4-3 victory over No. 3 West Virginia Wesleyan in the MEC Women’s Tournament semifinals as they advance the championship match against the University of Charleston.
Fairmont State won the doubles point as Hope Backx and Lara Smith defeated Dominique Jansen Van Vuuren, 6-0, and Maria Fonseca and Stephanie Gopar beat Andrea martinez-Garrido and Emilie Bergmann, 6-3.
Then the Falcons went up 2-0 after getting another point as Hope Backx defeated Daria Godlewska, 6-3 and 6-4. However, the Lady Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan would come right back and tie it up at 2-2 after Yuko Sakuria and Renata Pozzobon both secured wins.
Fairmont State then went back up one, 3-2, as Laura Maciel defeated Sneha Sundaraneedi, 6-4 and 7-5 as the final point would come down to the number six singles.
The Falcons would pull out the win as Emilie Bergmann defeated Alara Juelide Akgul in three, falling in the first 3-6, but then winning 6-1 and 6-3.
