Elkins High School student dies in ATV crash on Isner Creek Road

A 16-year-old Elkins High School student died Friday evening after an ATV crash on Isner Creek Road, according to the West Virginia State Police.

Elkins dispatch received a call about the crash at approximately 6:08 p.m. on March 6, according to a press release. The victim, a female juvenile, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in a crash involving a 2022 Can-Am Defender. Three other juveniles were in the ATV at the time. State police said no other injuries were reported.

None of the juveniles involved was publicly identified.

The crash occurred on private farmland, and no criminal activity is suspected. Death notification was delivered in person to the victim’s parents, according to the state police.

Randolph County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shawn L. Dilly issued a statement to the school community, saying counselors and support staff would be available at Elkins High School for students and staff in the days ahead.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the student we have lost, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” Dilly said. “When tragedy touches our school community, it affects us all.”
