BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team lost at home in MEC action to Frostburg State Wednesday afternoon 26-2. FSU scored their 26 goals on an impressive 49 shots.
Frostburg State came out of the gates fast, scoring 11 goals on 25 shots. Neila Haney had three out of her four goals and Camden DeMaio had both of her two goals in the opening quarter. Wesleyan wasn’t able to fire a single shot off in the opening quarter as FSU took a commanding 11-0 lead into the second quarter.
Wesleyan went scoreless once again in the second but held Frostburg State to just four goals. WVWC had two shots on goal and four ground balls in the quarter while forcing FSU into two turnovers. At the half, Frostburg State led 16-0.
Kaitlyn Canby kicked off the second half with a goal, slicing through the defense to get herself open for the score. Frostburg State added four more goals to the board before Makenzi Lewellyn found Emma Reger for another WVWC score. Wesleyan trailed Frostburg 20-2 after three quarters of play.
FSU controlled the final quarter, scoring six goals on seven shots on goal and only turning it over once in the quarter. It wasn’t as kind to Wesleyan who went scoreless and only fired off two shots as the buzzer sounded with Frostburg winning 26-2.
Haney and Brittyn Leonard both had four goals apiece to lead Frostburg while three different players had two assists each. Grace Dickey have three saves and Nicole Gray had two.
Canby and Reger had one goal each for Wesleyan and Lewellyn had an assist. Gabriella Gomez recorded 12 saves on the day.
