The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 1,658 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 162 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (31), Barbour (9), Lewis (8), Randolph (16) and Webster (4) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of 13 active cases in the last 24 hours.
No additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 13, 2022, there are currently 1,658 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There were no deaths reported to DHHR over the last 24 hours, and total deaths remain at 6,893 attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 119 residents are hospitalized with the virus (52% unvaccinated, 48% vaccinated), with 25 currently in intensive care (48% unvaccinated, 52% vaccinated) and 11 on a ventilator (46% unvaccinated, 54% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 7.94%.
A total of 976,122 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 55% of the state. About 482,163 booster doses have been administered.
