73 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 73 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on July 3, 2020, there have been 180,597 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 3,126 total cases and 93 deaths,” according to a press release.

No additional cases were reported in Upshur, Lewis or Barbour counties, but Randolph County saw an uptick of six new cases, according to the release.

Friday marks the third straight day that West Virginia has reported more than 70 new cases. In mid-June, the state was reporting just over 100 new cases per week; now the number is nearly four times that.

New cases were reported Friday in Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Hancock, Harrison, Jefferson, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pocahontas, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Taylor, Wetzel and Wood counties.

About 637 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 2,396 people have recovered and 93 have died.

No new deaths were reported Friday.
