28 new cases of COVID-19, one additional death reported in West Virginia on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 28 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

No new cases were identified in Upshur County. Randolph County reported two additional cases, while Barbour County had one.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 73-year old male from Mineral County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on June 22, 2020, there have been 153,393 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 2,571 total cases and 90 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Monday in Barbour, Berkeley, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Marshall, Mason, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Taylor and Wood counties.

About 755 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 1,726 people have recovered and 90 have died, a mortality rate of about 5 percent.
