SUTTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur cross-country Bucs put four runners in the top five at the Braxton County Invitational this past Saturday.

Jordan Gillum ran second with a time of 18:30.0, Jack Waggy was third with a clocking of 19:33.7, Reis Leonard took fourth with a time of 19:52.4 while Brycen Allen was fifth with a time of 20:56.0 for the Bucs.

Rhett Ammons finished 13th with a time of 23:19.7 to round out the Buckhannon-Upshur scoring.

With those top placements, the Bucs won the three-team event with 21 points while Webster County was second with 35 points and Braxton County was third with 68.

Richwood, Clay County and Gilmer County competed but did not field complete teams.

Richwood’s Trey Stanley won the individual title with a time of 18:26.1.

The rest of the B-U line-up included Brandon Landis running 17th (24:21.3), Joseph Shipman running 19th (25:16.3), Alex Casto taking 20th (25:24.7), Lucas Bennett placing 25th (26:52.3), Ryan Dowell placing 26th (27:59.9) and Ryan Tenney was 28th (29:07.7).

“I was really happy with how the team performed,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Taylor Stacy. “We took this meet on short notice after not being able to attend Preston County since their meet was canceled. Our team has been running really hard lately, so it was nice to see them push through some tired legs and bring home the win.

“Jordan ran a great race as he has all season,” Stacy added. “The guys did a great job of packing up and pulling one another along. Anytime you have four boys in the top five, it’s going to be a good day. I’m excited to see what this final month of training brings for us. We’ve done great progressing all year but our job isn’t done yet.”

The Bucs are slated to run this Saturday at the Fairmont Times Invitational at the Apple Valley Golf Course.
