WVU Health System recognized for digital health achievement as 2026 Digital Health Most Wired Survey recipient

WVU Health System earned Level 9 recognition in both acute and ambulatory care in the 2026 Digital Health Most Wired Survey, based on data from 25 member hospitals.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) has announced the results of its 2026 Digital Health Most Wired Survey, an internationally recognized benchmarking program that honors excellence in digitally enabled healthcare. The WVU Health System achieved Level 9 in both the Acute and Ambulatory categories.

Among the more than 44,000 facilities represented in this year’s survey, the WVU Health System, which operates under the brand WVU Medicine, distinguished itself by ranking above peers in key focus areas, including clinical quality and safety, analytics and data management, cybersecurity, population health, infrastructure, patient engagement and innovation.

The survey evaluates the adoption, maturity, outcomes and value of technology across healthcare organizations at every stage of their digital journey, from early-phase digitization to advanced transformation.

“As WVU Medicine has grown to serve patients across West Virginia and beyond, connected and accessible health information remains essential to coordinating care across our network,” Albert L. Wright Jr., president and CEO of the WVU Health System, said. “Sophisticated digital tools and infrastructure support our clinicians and care teams while helping us advance the quality of care for patients throughout our region.”

WVU Medicine’s 2026 Most Wired survey was completed prior to the system’s acquisition of Butler Memorial, Clarion, Frick, Latrobe and Westmoreland hospitals and included data representing 25 member hospitals.

Healthcare organizations continue to navigate persistent cybersecurity threats, evolving care models, workforce shortages and tightening budgets.

At the same time, artificial intelligence (AI) is moving quickly from pilot projects into practice, and innovations powered by interoperable data, AI and secure digital infrastructure are reshaping how and where care is delivered.

“Technology continues to transform the way we deliver care, but realizing its full potential requires a sustained commitment, strong governance, and a clear strategic vision,” Jim Venturella, chief information officer of the WVU Health System, said. “This recognition reflects the work of teams across our organization who are using technology to advance patient care, improve quality and safety, and better serve the communities that depend on us.”
