The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 2,673 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 37 since the last report.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (33), Barbour (9), Lewis (9), Randolph (176) and Webster (5) counties. In Upshur County, the number of active cases has not changed in the last 24 hours.
Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the DHHR – an 85-year old male from Kanawha County, a 66-year old female from Raleigh County, a 77-year old female from Tyler County, an 85-year old male from Greenbrier County, and a 71-year old male from Greenbrier County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 16, 2021, there have been 2,955,717 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 163,311 total cases and 2,861 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 1.92%.
A total of 784,131 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 44% of the state.
