West Virginia reports 882 active COVID cases, one new death on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 882 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 83 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (12), Barbour (8), Lewis (6), Randolph (15) and Webster (0) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of one active case in the last 24 hours. 

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 76-year old female from Raleigh County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 29, 2022, there are currently 882 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There has been one death reported since the last report, with a total of 6,856 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 94 residents are hospitalized with the virus (56% unvaccinated, 44% vaccinated), with 23 currently in intensive care (48% unvaccinated, 52% vaccinated) and 15 on a ventilator (53% unvaccinated, 47% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 4.16%. 

A total of 974,128 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 467,236 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
