West Virginia reports 6,115 active COVID cases, 24 new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 6,115 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 178 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (136), Barbour (61), Lewis (62), Randolph (76) and Webster (48) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of 22 active cases in the last 24 hours.

Twenty-four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 47-year old male from Greenbrier County, a 64-year old male from Preston County, a 79-year old male from Wayne County, a 66-year old male from Kanawha County, a 76-year old female from Monongalia County, a 79-year old female from Gilmer County, a 56-year old male from Kanawha County, a 64-year old female from Kanawha County, a 76-year old male from Mason County, a 39-year old female from Nicholas County, a 70-year old female from Cabell County, a 65-year old male from Monongalia County, a 90-year old male from Kanawha County, an 80-year old female from Mineral County, a 57-year old male from Raleigh County, a 58-year old female from Boone County, a 67-year old male from Monongalia County, a 71-year old male from Greenbrier County, a 66-year old male from Monroe County, a 75-year old female from Marion County, a 50-year old female from Nicholas County, a 62-year old male from Logan County, a 71-year old male from Kanawha County, and a 71-year old female from Lincoln County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of November 10, 2021, there are currently 6,115 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 24 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 4,592 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 544 residents are hospitalized with the virus (76% unvaccinated, 24% vaccinated), with 190 currently in intensive care (85% unvaccinated, 15% vaccinated) and 94 on a ventilator (86% unvaccinated, 14% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 6.68%.

A total of 928,702 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 52% of the state.
