The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 3,335 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 196 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (43), Barbour (35), Lewis (27), Randolph (43) and Webster (23) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an unchanged number of active cases over the weekend.
Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 80-year old male from Harrison County, a 70-year old female from Kanawha County, a 67-year old male from Kanawha County, a 74-year old male from Wetzel County, and an 83-year old male from Cabell County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 1, 2022, there are currently 3,335 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 5 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,161 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 324 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 48 currently in intensive care and 16 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 13.38%.
About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
