West Virginia reports 315 new COVID-19 cases, 19 deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 315 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (2), Lewis (5) and Webster (11) counties. A total of 25 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Nineteen additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR:

  • a 90-year old female from Morgan County,
  • a 59-year old male from Brooke County,
  • a 72-year old male from Cabell County,
  • an 83-year old male from Berkeley County,
  • a 78-year old male from Berkeley County,
  • a 64-year old male from Nicholas County,
  • a 52-year old female from Kanawha County,
  • a 74-year old male from Wetzel County,
  • a 73-year old male from Kanawha County,
  • a 76-year old female from Berkeley County,
  • a 67-year old male from Berkeley County,
  • a 74-year old male from Berkeley County,
  • a 63-year old female from Cabell County,
  • a 72-year old male from Brooke County,
  • an 81-year old male from Hampshire County,
  • a 79-year old male from Berkeley County,
  • an 83-year old female from Kanawha County,
  • an 86-year old female from Hampshire County
  • an 83-year old female from Berkeley County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of March 17, 2021, there have been 2,320,735 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 136,334 total cases and 2,565 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,206 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 128,563 people have recovered and 2,565 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.9%.

A total of 247,203 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
