The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 2,547 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 226 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (32), Barbour (13), Lewis (18), Randolph (18) and Webster (7) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of 14 active cases over the weekend.
Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 94-year old male from Fayette County, a 70-year old female from Raleigh County, and a 94-year old female from Mercer County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 6, 2022, there are currently 2,547 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been three deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,977 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 176 residents are hospitalized with the virus (47% unvaccinated, 53% vaccinated), with 25 currently in intensive care (36% unvaccinated, 64% vaccinated) and 10 on a ventilator (30% unvaccinated, 70% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 9.35%.
A total of 979,441 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 55% of the state. About 503,758 booster doses have been administered.
